Here’s a good description of the last 2 weeks of Las Vegas ultimate on Monday night’s out at Silver Bowl complex:
I must say, the past two weeks have been particularly fun.
Competitive, high level Ultimate played right at the silverbowl and we
didn’t have to invite a tournament of 90 teams to see it. Red finally
loses it’s first game, going down 12-13 on universe after storming
back from 11-6 to take a 12-11 lead.
Red’s halftime cheer really got them going, it was the sort of cheer
champions are made of. A change in defensive philosophy, executed
beautifully by our women also probably helped.
Ultimately it was an exceptional night by white’s handlers that proved
too much to overcome. Well done everybody.
Lots of fun. See you all soon.

Here’s some recent posts to the Las Vegas Ultimate Yahoo Group that were worth mentioning.
Hi everyone,
Great game last night between Lights vs Darks. The game was decided on an Universe Point. The Dark team prevailed 15 to 14. We had roughly 22-23 people out last night and therefore, both team had plenty of subs. Hopefully we will have more people out next Monday!! Come out and joined the fun!!
There will also be practice tomorrow (Wed) at Silver Bowl at 7:30pm. Come out to improve your skills and also to help the Vegas team prepare for the Sectionals tournament in September. Even if you are not going to the Sectionals, still come out and join us. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is welcome!!
James
I agree with James 100%. Last night was the most fun I’ve had playing ultimate in Vegas in a long time. It was great to have a high quality, competitive 7 v.7 (with subs!!) game going on. Last night really showed me that Vegas can and should have a thriving, improving ultimate scene and should be excited about the future.
Lets keep the momentum from last night going. Easiest way to do that, come out Wednesday night. It will be a little more structured for the first few minutes, but as long as we have enough people and, really, even if we don’t, there will be a game or two of disc played.
I also promise I won’t whip off my glasses and scream like a spoiled brat when Ken or Airbud beats me up the line or jukes me out of my cleats 8 times in a row.
Vic – I don’t know if your crew is on this email list or not, but if not can you forward James and I emails to them, or just otherwise tell them we’d love to have them out on Wednesdays as well. Thx.
Pastore
Hey everyone!
There has been a lot of questions about if we plan to do anything for Sectionals this year. Sectionals are in September so if we plan on competing then we need to get off our respective butts and get it in gear.
If you are interested in playing in Sectionals then be out for Wed Night Practice, Silver Bowl (see map), 7:30 pm. We will get a head count and run it from there. If you can’t make practice this week because you’re out of town (both Greg’s, Diego ‘del fuego’), or working late, etc then post a response. Otherwise, in order to be a tour de force, we need to have everyone out to huck, run, cut, and dive.
And don’t think that we’re pooling only from certain people!! EVERYONE is welcome, no matter your experience, ability, or perception of either. Come out cuz we’d love to have you join us. Plus, playing at Sectionals is a great experience.
Cya out there!!

I know this post is a little late, but I thought I’d post it for people’s reference anyway. Basically, Henderson City didn’t do the second ultimate frisbee city league session and so we (props to Greg) just decided to throw our own. We play each Monday at 7:30 at Silver Bowl Complex (see map). Everyone is welcome to attend. There’s one team that’s just for all the players without a team. Go and enjoy some ultimate frisbee in Nevada.

The following note was sent to the LV Ultimate Yahoo group:
i’m still looking to get an alternate location going with an alternate time…
i’m kinda bummed by this “having to call parks & rec” to be authorized to use an area…
back in the day (and i’m talking way back…and in CT, not NV) we’d just get together with some friends at an elementary school field and play on sundays (late afternoon/early evening – usually from around 2pm-5pm)…no signing out a field…no permission slips, etc.
i was just out last sunday afternoon at eldorado park (intersection of camino eldorado & tropical – next to antonello elementary school)and there was absolutely no one using the large grass field out there…
i’m thinking about 4-8 plastic orange cones and we’re good…
anyone’s thoughts??? i’d really like to play again…it’s been probably over 10 years now…at least in any manner of even loosely-organized format…

Air Bud has put together a little online ultimate frisbee “survey” for people who don’t have a team, but would like to play in city league. If you sign up on that survey Air Bud will do his best to get you on a team.
After the killer frisbee tonight, I decided that Saturday’s pickup (10 AM at Goett) is going to be a UNLV Red vs. BYU Blue game in honor of the UNLV vs. BYU basketball game that afternoon. So, come wearing either blue or red for pickup on Saturday. If you don’t care about either team, you’re still welcome. Either pick your favorite of the 2 or just wear white.
We’ll need to try and start pickup as close to 10 as possible to make it to the basketball game at 1.
Bring your Red. Bring your Blue. Woot!
Just wanted to post a quick update. As most of you probably know if you’re reading this, thanks to Seattle like rain Trouble in Vegas had to move fields and redo the entire schedule. Because of those changes, Las Vegas teams have all been scheduled for evening games on Saturday.
So, the beauty of this is that we’re still holding Saturday pickup tomorrow, 1/22/10 at 10 AM. Same place as usual: Goett Family Park – 10975 Southern Highlands Parkway (map) Looks like there are at least 3-4 teams that are playing in Trouble in Vegas that only have night games. So, that means it should be a great pickup ultimate game on Saturday Morning in Las Vegas.
Saturday evening, SINergy has the 5pm to 9pm time slot. Zoom Zoom plays in the 5pm to 8pm time slot.
Check out a few of the tournaments that Las Vegas players are looking at playing:
Lei-out Beach Ultimate – Jan 16-17, 2010 – Santa Monica, CA
Purple Grape Juice – Captains – Brandt and Kate
Trouble in Vegas Club – January 23-24, 2010 – Las Vegas, NV
SINergy – Men’s competitive – Captain -Greg Woods
Kate’s team – Women’s competitive – Captain – Kate
Zoom Zoom! – Mixed spirit – Captains – Kilkenny and JD
Trouble in Vegas College – February 5-7, 2010 – Las Vegas, NV
No Vegas Teams
